讲座简介:
The first topic of this lecture is differing scripts as an aspect of translation, and of linguistics and literary study. This is a development of my work on Heterographics, one article on which is here attached. And the second topic is about writing in stone and the shaping of glyphs, characters and letters, in China and the West. This tells the story of the Dane, Frits Holm, and his interest in the Nestorian Monument in 1907 and goes on to show the significance of his attitude to the Monument and how we might explain some aspects of the West's misunderstanding of China.
