1.讲座题目:Discover, Create, and Share Digital Museum Resources with the Smithsonian Learning Lab
讲座时间:5月15日星期三下午4:30-6:00
讲座地点:南校区C楼129
讲座简介: Recent innovations in digital technology are opening new pathways for users to engage with and learn about history and culture from museums around the world. With internet access, users can access high-quality images of artifacts right from their desktop or mobile device, but without authoritative information and tools to interact, these images are difficult to use for deep and effective learning.
The Smithsonian Learning Lab (learninglab.si.edu) was launched in 2016 to make the rich resources of the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, more widely available. This free digital platform offers new ways of learning for users who, through digital tools, can discover, customize, and share resources to match their educational needs.
This presentation will focus on the development of the Smithsonian Learning Lab, how the Smithsonian Institution is using the platform to provide access to our collections on a global scale, and our research on what users need to use digital museum resources for learning.
2.讲座题目:Using Digital Platforms and International Collaboration to Explore the Terracotta Army
讲座时间:5月16日星期四下午4:30-6:00
讲座地点:南校区C楼107
讲座简介: In 2017, to address a growing need for access to resources that develop understandings of global cultures and perspectives, the Smithsonian Institution’s Center for Learning and Digital Access (Washington, D.C., U.S.A.), the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, and Xidian University created a set of interactive digital activities that provide a curiosity-inspiring entry point to studying Chinese history and the Terracotta Army. The activities were built on the Smithsonian Learning Lab (learninglab.si.edu), a free digital platform designed to enable the discovery of rich museum resources and the creation of, through digital tools, customized collections to meet educational needs. The collaboration not only enabled the Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum to develop their first digital learning resources – it also created a unique opportunity for users to interact with the authoritative resources of an institution they would not have been able to access otherwise.
This presentation will focus on the Smithsonian Learning Lab, the development and use of these digital activities, and the potential of digital technology to invite the exploration of museum collections in ways that promote global competency.
