The Tunnel – the Anglo-French remake of the cult Scandinavian series The Bridge – hits the shops today. This gripping drama wasn’t available on terrestrial TV, so the DVD should help more people see it.
The series is a fairly faithful remake of the original drama, which was set on the Øresund bridge between Denmark and Sweden. Here, though, the Channel tunnel between England and France is the setting.
The series begins with the discovery of a corpse midway in the tunnel.
This brings together the police forces on either side of the tunnel to catch the killer. Enter Stephen Dillane, who plays British officer Karl Roebuck, and Clémence Poésy, who plays his French counterpart, Elise Wasserman.
Inevitably – this is a made-for-TV drama, after all – the pair are diametrically opposed: his relaxed style is in stark contrast to her uptight manner.
The DVD is available from Amazon.co.uk. I’ve ordered my copy – but as I have yet to see how the series ends, I’ll postpone judgment on whether I’ll be sticking to the ferry for future trips to France.
