Fortunately, National Ferry Fortnight is more about discounted tickets than enforced fun aboard Britain’s ferries. The prospect of grabbing a bargain break is likely to put more smiles on people’s faces than novelty hats and streamers.
Now in its sixth year, the two-week event aims to promote ferries as fast and affordable alternatives to the Channel tunnel or to Eurostar. It launched yesterday and runs until 29 March.
Under the banner Discover Ferries, 12 companies are taking part, including Brittany Ferries, Condor, DFDS and P&O, which run routes to France from England.
As I’ve explained before, I’m no great fan of the Newhaven-Dieppe service operated by DFDS. That said, I see they are offering ten per cent off trips booked during the fortnight, so I’ll make sure I book my summer trip to France during the fortnight.
As long as they don’t make me wear a party hat, that is.
