A welcome break: La Roseraie

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then you probably already know why we picked this chambres d’hôtes to stay in last night. After a four o’clock start in Dieppe yesterday morning, it made for a very welcome stopover.

La Roseraie is about 12km north of Poitiers, on the edge of the village of Neuville de Poitou, situated in the département of Vienne. It offers gîtes and chambres d’hôtes. We’ve taken its garden room.

We haven’t got too far to go now to reach Bergerac. It would ordinarily take about four hours in the car, though we’ll take a detour via Angoulême. We fancy nipping into the city en route, as it’s somewhere we’ve never been.

It isn’t the only stop we’ll have made on our journey. After getting off the ferry yesterday morning, we drove to Rouen, where we had a snooze in the underground car park beneath Place Saint-Marc.

The other reason for that was so that we could wander around the market picking up provisions for last night. After a day on the road, I knew I wouldn’t really want to get dressed up and eat out.

Something much more relaxed would be just the ticket.

The garden room has its own private terrace, so we were able to sit out into the evening, eating the bread, cheese and cold meats we’d bought at the market. Washed down with a glass of wine or two, of course.

Refreshed after a good night’s sleep, I’m now ready for the final leg of our trip.
