If you want to shop till you drop, then you’d better avoid the Dordogne. Sad to say, but the region isn’t the best place in the world if you’re a shopaholic.
Indeed, the small backstreet furniture emporium pictured is one of the highlights of any shopping trip to Bergerac – but that’s probably for all the wrong reasons.
In terms of chain stores, the city has a Sephora, an Armand Thiery and an Yves Rocher, but that’s about all. It has some lovely restaurants, mind you, and a great wine shop.
If it’s shops you want, you have to head for Bordeaux, an hour and a half to the west. Alternatively, there’s Toulouse, which is two and a half hours south.
In fairness, I have to fit anything I buy into the tiny boot of my little sports car. So perhaps it’s just as well there aren’t too many shops to tempt me.
Otherwise, where would I fit the wine?
