That’s another tick on my bucket list. I’ve wanted to go to le Vieux Logis restaurant in Trémolat for years, and now I’ve done it. The Michelin-starred restaurant was all that I hoped it would be.
The weather, however, wasn’t.
I’d hoped to eat outside, shaded by the trees in the restaurant’s manicured gardens. Sadly, rain meant that we had to sit inside.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated – and the tables for two are around the edge of the room, with chairs placed so that couples can watch what’s going on.
Mind you, we were rather more interested in the food being brought to us than in the other diners.
It’s hard to choose which of the nine courses on the dégustation menu we enjoyed the most. The duck with foie gras crème brûlée is certainly in the running. The prawns with pig’s trotter and celeriac was also very good. The second of the desserts – a lemon meringue éclair – was another high point of the meal.
In fact, I’m not sure I could pick one dish above the others.
In fact, I think I’ll have to go back again when I’m next here. The restaurant is part of a hotel and I could see that it had plenty of cosy sitting rooms with log fires – making it the perfect place for a return visit in the winter.
Maybe you don’t need the sun to visit le Vieux Logis after all.
