Call me a creature of habit if you like, but I already know one of the restaurants I’ll be eating at in Bergerac later this week. Worse, I know now what I will have to eat too.
I have the same main course every time I go to Le Bistro du Coin: scallops with fried foie gras, served on a bed of linguine.
It’s offered as part of the restaurant’s prix fixe lunch.
If I want to go wild menu-wise, I can choose a different starter to usual, rather than opt for the snails in garlic butter. The mushroom and duck tart, the pumpkin and chestnut soup or the homemade country pâté all look tempting.
That’s what I call letting my hair down.

Damon and I first found Le Bistro du Coin on a shopping expedition into Bergerac. It’s in the restaurant district of the town, on Rue du Colonel de Chadois. Opposite the restaurant itself is a south-facing terrace, where we have always opted to sit. Large white umbrellas provide shade from the midday sun.
I suspect that’s not going to be an issue in December.
