Ah, Paris in the spring. Who can resist it? Certainly not us – we’re spending a long weekend in the capital.
We’re here with two of our closest friends, Martin and Trevor (pictured). We were chatting at Christmas and they said that neither of them had been to Paris for 20 years or more and would like to go again.
It wasn’t long before a plan had been hatched.
Damon was nominated as our hotel booker – which seems entirely reasonable, given that he works for the world’s favourite online hotel reservation website. He found a rather nice four-star hotel just metres from the Pantheon and the Jardin du Luxembourg.
We took the TGV from Lille and the chaps – as we call them – arrived via the Eurostar from London. It has been great to catch up with them.
They used to live around the corner from us in Brighton, so we’d see each other frequently. Then they moved a mile up the road and we moved to France, so getting together requires a bit more planning than it used to.
But they remain the easy company they have always been. They have no fixed ideas about what they want to do while they’re here.
“We saw the Van Gogh La nuit étoilée at the Atelier des Lumières – a digital exhibition where the painter’s pictures come to life”
So we took charge for some of the weekend. Last night, we saw the Van Gogh La nuit étoilée at the Atelier des Lumières – a digital exhibition where the painter’s pictures come to life around you.
It was something else. If you’re in Paris soon, go.
We have a weekend of culture, good shopping and great food ahead of us. Paris, it’s good to be back.
